Alford U3A - University of the Third Age

Meeting on the third Thursday of each month at St Wilfrid's Church Hall in Alford at 10.30am

The Alford & District U3A is a successful and growing group of individuals who have retired from full time employment and enjoy learning and socialising. The group boasts over 100 members from Alford and the surrounding area and we are always ready to welcome new friends who will join us and perhaps even add to our range of activities.

Our general monthly meetings are an opportunity for members to get together for a coffee, hear from a guest speaker, and find out what the different interest groups have been up to.

The U3A approach to learning is learning for pleasure - if that sounds appealing why come along to one of our monthly meetings, or telephone the secretary if you would rather find out more first.

Alford U3A Groups

We have a wide range of groups to interest you including physical activities like 10 pin bowling and cycling, artistic pursuits such as play reading, theatre trips and a music group and popular hobbies including crafts, photography and computers. For the full and up to date list please visit our website.

What is the U3A?

U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self help organisation of people no longer in full-time employment, providing education, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. U3A membership is not related to a specific age but to a period in one’s life (the third age) after the second age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. Anybody in their third age can join U3A and this includes people who are working part time. All you need is interest and enthusiasm.
