I stumbled across you website while surfing the web. It has always been my dream to return to the "Old Mother Land", but now I am even more enthused to come and visit. You see our surname is not very common in the United States and I have always wondered where our Bloodline came from. Your town seems to reinforce the idea that we all came from the Eastern part of England. I really enjoyed looking at you site and wondering what my ancestors may have done centuries ago before the boat trip. Thank You for the Information.

I think Alford is a very attractive market town. It has some fascinating buildings, thatched cottages, the Manor House, the Georgian Market Square, and a magnificent church, restored by the nationally famous Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. It's such a shame to see the difficulties so many shopkeepers have maintaining viability, with such a small population. However, I believe Alford is interesting enough, for all the reasons cited, as well as for its Jazz Festival, twice weekly markets and Craft Market, to be a major tourist attraction. I believe smart, sophisticated shops which sought to appeal to that market as well as to the local indigenous one, would do well, for the town as well as for their owners. We could do with more good restaurants, open every evening, too, so that people would start to think of Alford as a place to go out to for the evening, as they do Spilsby or Horncastle. If Alford, as it is now, were situated in the South of England it would be a boom town!

I lived in Alford all my life until I was 16yrs. I left in 1960, we had a wonderful life. Never any complains about nothing to do. We a a great youth club & the White Horse was then a coffee bar. Any one of my age will remember with lots of fond memories. We had a cinema which always had the latest films, a funfair at least once a year & dances in the town hall.

I did a search on the name Alford just for kicks and found your web site. I'm wondering about the origin of the name. Does anyone know if the town was named after a person? Perhaps someday I can come for a visit. Until then, see you soon.

Where would we locate online history of the town and the people Alford ?
Are there records available of who left for Scotland - Ireland - America when, how, and for what destination ?
Are these Alfords related to the Noble Class Alfords ?
Thank you for the great site... we will try to get over that way in the next year or so.

Does anyone have any recollections about Alford Railway Station as my Grandfather on my mother's side used to be the Station Master. Mum's family name was Hardwick. Is there any books on the Station or Alford generally?

Having grown up in Alford (now living in London), I agree that there should be more facilities for the youth. More cafes and activity centres. the Youth club was great when I was there, but massivly in need of funds.

Hello, I have been researching my family tree and have a question concerning my ancestors who resided in Alford around 1900. I was wondering if you could help me in my search, or if there is another source within the Town of Alford who could assist me.

My Great-grandfather, William Kirk CRISP, was a Police Constable in Alford around 1900. According to the 1901 Census of the town, he was married to Rosa, and had a son, John Cyril Horace Crisp (who later became a Police Constable himself) and resided at Park Road. I was wondering if there are any archives available regarding the constabulary of Alford around that era and, better still, if there were any photographs taken of the police station perhaps showing my Great-grandfather.

If you can help me in my search by referring me to someone who could assist me, that would be wonderful! Thank you for your time. Kind regards,

I live in Alford Street, Howrah, Tasmania and simply searched for the name derivation. Sir John Franklin, I live in the Franklin electorate, was a former Tasmanian governor. Thank you... Peter Lawler (Howrah, Tasmania) September 15, 2003
In response to your comments section I must agree with the young person who has taken the initiative to speak up for more youth facilities. Certainly funding is always a problem but I am sure there are ways and means if the right contacts are made. This comments section is an ideal vehicle to put projects into action . This one would be really worthwhile and would bring young life into the town. So basically it’s not just comments that are required in this case but offers of practical assistance in obtaining funding and of assistance to implement the facility. Can You fix it?... i think alford is a nice town but there is'ent any thing for teenagers to do there needs to be like a cafe or some thing for young people to go at nights and weekends it would be good because it would cut crime and keep teenagers off the street ... Anon (2003 May 01)
