The picturesque setting of the Alford Manor House gardens was again hosting the display by Lincolnshire artists and makers of traditional and contemporary crafts.

In a difficult period of economic change the theme of “re-cycling” was illustrated in a demonstration area showing how materials can be effectively re-used in an artistic way. Using scrap metals Chris Thompson displayed a variety of stoves and ovens designed and built to burn different fuels.

The traditional craft of rag-rug making demonstrated by Angela King evoked many memories of earlier styles of home furnishings with her colourful and striking designs. Other demonstrations showed the skill of felt-making and also the use of waste materials to create books and pictorial art. Recent work of Michel Ducos exploring the technique of  “paper-clay” showed how clay can be mixed with paper materials to produce sculptural results with a strong textured surface.

A variety of crafts and artistry were shown by numerous makers from the county. These included jewellery, ceramics, textiles, glass and wood. Using the theme of re-cycling each stallholder showed on their own display an article which incorporates waste materials; visitors to the event were encouraged to recognise which items these might be and to discuss with the stall-holders their techniques and ideas.
